As part of our yearly Esbat cycle, two ideas were taught by our Elders as tradition for the Full Moon in February. The first option is the “Festival of Creative Arts” and a second option is the performance and celebration of the “Lupercalia” which is a ‘Pagan Playlet’ festival.
Festival of Creative Arts:
This is one of the times of the year where a celebration with other covens and traditions was welcomed if they wish to collaborate with others. During this time, either an Arts & Crafts Fair or a Psychic Fair was appropriate in celebration of the Waxing Light.
It was taught that each Covendom will have or may institute ideas on how to carry out this Esbat, as there is no formal script for this collaborative event. Some covens may not have at the ability to gather with others and may conduct this Full Moon Esbat as a private affair depending on the collective will of the Coven Council.
Lupercalia – a Pagan Playlet:

Pagan Playlets are more complex and takes a larger group to perform. They are alternatives for large rituals at the New or Full Moon Esbats should a coven wish to perform them.
The Pagan Playlet that can be celebrated for the February’s Full Moon Esbat is the Lupercalia – Rite for the Lycean Pan. The Great Mother was re-awakened at Candlemas, so likewise in this ritual, offerings are given and a pagan festival is carried out to commemorate the resurgence of the God at Lupercalia.
In the ritual script, there is an Officiant in this ritual that leads the festival and the the covens that join together for this honor the Lycean Pan of Arcadia. It is one in which ecstatic dance, feasting and revelry can be enjoyed in good cheer.
